What files are managed by Open File Manager?

Return to Knowledgebase

Open File Manager facilitates the backup of all open files regardless of file type or application.

Open File Manager performs two (2) primary functions:

  1. Prior to version 9.1, OFM manages locks so that both the user-application and the backup application agent can retain simultaneous and transparent access to files.

In version 9.1and later, managing locks on Windows file-systems and NetWare NSS is irrelevant due to the logical volume architecture. OFM still manages locks for NetWare LSS.

  2. OFM provides a logically consistent point-in-time image of the file-system to the backup application agent so that all data will be logically consistent on the backup medium.
