When do I need a NetWare Client?

For the Open File Manager Control Component to display NetWare machines in the network pane and deploy the NetWare System-Component, a NetWare client must be installed on the Control Component machine. Both Novell and Microsoft have NetWare clients available.

Important: You will need the Novell client (instead of the Microsoft client) to start or stop the System Component on a NetWare machine from the Control Component.

This component replaces the normal Windows "Login" dialogue box. The following screens show the NetWare 4.83 "Login" dialogue box that takes over the login function.

Above is the "compact" looking login. The Advanced button brings up Novell network login options, as shown below.

Trees, Contexts and Servers buttons are used to designate the NetWare servers you are interested in working with (see below). You will see these same machines later, when you launch the Control Component.
