| Knowledgebase What is Sync Timeout? Basically, this parameter delays the backup application from starting, if necessary, so that the Write Inactivity Period (WIP) can be achieved. Passing the WIP check is desirable for acquiring a system-wide data backup that is logically consistent (no partially complete transactions for example). If the WIP cannot be achieved within the Sync-Timeout, "system-wide sync" is not achieved, and the backup application begins. Open File Manager will attempt to sync each NT volume or NetWare pool individually. If the Volume by Volume synch fails, you may increase the Sync-Timeout to 120 seconds in an attempt to achieve synch. If the synch still fails, this Sync-Timeout value can be increased up to a maximum value of 600 seconds.
