| Knowledgebase When should OFM unsynchronize? When the backup completes, and the Backup Inactivity Timeout has been reached, resources such as memory and temporary disk space are released. The purpose of the Backup Inactivity Timeout is to accommodate mechanical operations for a backup that is still in progress. For example, if the backup job requires manual intervention to change a tape, the Backup Inactivity Timeout provides the operator with time to detect and correct the situation so that synchronization is not lost. If such delays are unnecessary, the Backup Inactivity Timeout can be reduced. In this case, the recommended setting for the Backup Inactivity Timeout value is 20 minutes. Note that OFM will synchronize again when the next backup occurs.
