| Knowledgebase Why is system-wide volume synchronization important? System-wide synchronization ensures that all transactions on a machine are complete before allowing backup to begin. It is desirable to have all transactions complete across all volumes so that relational data integrity is preserved system-wide. Other open file solutions only offer file-by-file synchronization or volume-by-volume synchronization, which do not wait for transactions to complete before initiating backup. This presents the critical risk that data integrity cannot be guaranteed and mission-critical data can be lost.
