Run Disk or Maintenance Routines outside the Backup Window

Return to Knowledgebase

To minimize I/O and resource utilization during backup it is better not to run disk or application maintenance routines (such as Defrags, Rebuilds, Optimization, or GroupWise Indexing) in the same time window as your backup. If you run these routines while a backup is in progress, Open File Manager will be forced to create Preview Data on every file that is modified, moved, or accessed. While Open File Manager can manage this situation, you could see a major performance hit unless you have a very high power server with a lot of RAM.
