Ignoring Backup Application Installation Directories by Specifying 'Ignore Sets'

Return to Knowledgebase

In order for Open File Manager to operate properly, you must identify the backup application installation directories on the systems running the Open File Manager System Component. These directories must be placed in the Open File Manager "Ignore Set".

To add the backup application’s files to Open File Manager’s Ignore Set, perform the following steps for any system running the Open File Manager System Component:

  1. Identify your backup application and/or backup agent installation directories. For our example, "C:\BackupApplication" (Some backup applications use secondary installation directories, which also must be added to the Ignore Set.)

  2. From the Open File Manager Control Component (User Interface), select System Properties from the dropdown menu.

  3. Select the Files tab. Select Add to bring up a standard Windows Browse dialog box. From this dialog box, one or more files, directories and subdirectories can be added to the "Files to be Ignored by Open File Manager" group. The standard Windows CTRL-Select and SHIFT-Select conventions are supported for multiple file/directory selections.

  4. Select the backup application and agent top-level installation directories (usually only one), and select the checkbox "Include all subdirectories." This will cause Open File Manager to ignore C:\BackupApplication (remember to check the "Include Subdirectories" checkbox for each entry).

  5. Save your selections and verify that they appear correctly in the Files tab.

  6. Exit Properties.

Check" Include Subdirectories"

%SystemRoot%\System32\inetsrv\*

Yes

%SystemRoot%\TEMP\ComRegDB.bak

No

Note: you cannot use the %SystemRoot% or %SystemDrive% variables in the actual ignore set entry. Substitute the actual value of these variables. Use "echo %systemroot% or %systemdrive" to get your actual value. %SystemRoot% is typically C:\WINNT or C:\WINDOWS, while %SystemDrive% is typically C:

Note: <user.domain> is the user running the backup, which may be the one used to start a service. You'll also need to add the short name equivalent of the Documents and Settings folder. For example:
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCAL~1\* (include subdirectories.)

*:\nsr\*

Yes

*:\networkr.cfg

No

*:\NsrDiskQuota.dat

No
