| Knowledgebase Backup Agents Do Not Attempt to Open a File When They Expect
the Attempt to Fail Some backup agents do not attempt to open a file when they expect the attempt to fail. (This applies to backup products that can be configured to open files in either exclusive or non-exclusive modes, when the exclusive mode is selected.) Similarly, some backup products can be explicitly configured to skip open files. In each of these cases, Open File Manager does not have the opportunity to assist and grant the open request. Therefore, backup agents should be configured to open files in non-exclusive modes (such as 'Deny None if Deny Write Fails'), and to backup open files. Open File Manager will then grant the open requests and provide consistent data for backup. Note: This applies principally to OFM on the NetWare Legacy File System (LFS).
