| Knowledgebase Targeting a System for Backup from a Remote Host Systems are backed up using 2 methods:
Many backup products can use both methods. Open File Manager supports either method using agent definitions as follows:
If the backup application is configured to login to the target machine, see Login Agents in the OFM User Manual for instructions on configuring an OFM Login Agent to recognize the login account by name (an account name specifically for backup is recommended). This allows the backup to be detected by OFM when the backup application logs in to the target system. Open File Manager also supports remote system backup programs that are "NT-Aware." This means that holders of the user right 'Backup Files and Directories' (normally granted to Administrators and Backup Operators) can run a backup program using the Windows operating system feature 'Open for Backup Intent' without the need to configure a specific login name. To enable this agent definition, check 'Remote System Backup (NT Aware)' on the Agents tab. For NetWare backup applications, an SMS Backup Method agent is also available, and is enabled by default.
