How to Disable the OFM VSS Provider Service

For OFM builds prior to 9.401L, the Open File Manager VSS Provider Service (OFMVSSPROV) must be disabled for backup applications that use Microsoft VSS Framework for System State backups (Backup Exec is a good example).  To disable the OFM VSS Provider Service, do the following:

• In SERVICES, right-click on the "Open File Manager - VSS Provider Service" and "Stop" the service. This will un-register OFM from the VSS Framework, allowing Microsoft VSS to resume as the VSS provider.   

  
  

• Repeat the step above after each system boot.

  
  

For OFM 9.401L and later, Open File Manager VSS Provider does not load by default, therefore the above steps are unnecessary.
